Former President Goodluck Jonathan has denied the allegations that he is a sponsor of the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA). The former President, who was named among many others, as an NDA sponsor, said the claim is malicious. Jonathan said the composition of the list shows that those who released the list have a political motive. GEJ also said he will issue an official statement to clear himself from the allegation levelled against him by the Reformed Niger Delta Avengers (RNDA). Some of those mentioned as sponsors of the NDA, include: Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa state, Raymond Dokpesi, the founder of African Independent Television (AIT), Ex militant Government Ekpemupolo (alias Tompolo), the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), Kingsley Kuku, Kimi Angozi, Patrick Akpobolokemi, Olisa Metuh, and a host of others. President Muhammadu Buhari declared on Friday that Nigeria has had enough of incessant clashes between herdsmen and farmers across the country. He said government had, accordingly, mandated security agencies to put an end to the problem. “On the matter of herdsmen/farmers clashes, I wish to state that this administration will not tolerate or condone acts of banditry and criminality, under any guise. As such, our security agencies have been mandated to deal with such acts decisively,” Buhari said at the graduation of members of Course 24 of the National Defence College (NDC), Abuja. Delta State Police Command, Asaba, on Thursday arrested the General Overseer of a church (name withheld) for allegedly raping a seven-year-old daughter of his member. Pubic Relations Officer of the command, Mrs. Celestina Kalu, disclosed that the suspect’s church was along Ibusa Road, Koka, Asaba. According to the P. R. O. , the cleric lured the girl into the church office to ‘pray’ for her but committed the act after which the victim told her parents what happened. The couple immediately rushed their daughter to the Federal Medical Centre in Asaba, where it was discovered that the girl had been raped. Bruises were also discovered in her private parts. Kalu added that on investigation, the suspect confessed to the crime and would soon be charged to court. Daily Post

Ijaw National leader, Edwin Clark, has said former president Olusegun Obasanjo is the most corrupt ex-president in Nigeria's history. A former chief judge of the Federal High Court, Abuja, Justice Dahiru Saleh (retd.), said he has no apology for refusing to declare the acclaimed winner of the 1993 presidential election, MKO Abiola president, when the case was brought before him. He also absolved former President Ibrahim Babangida as being responsible for the annulment of the controversial election. The retired justice, while claiming responsibility for the annulment, however, blamed the acclaimed winner, Abiola for refusing to appeal the court’s verdict. Recall that Justice Saleh had in June 1993 ordered the then National Electoral Commission, NEC, to stop further release of the results of the election on the ground that the election itself should not have been conducted in the first place. He had cited the mid-night ruling on June 11, 1993, by Justice Bassey Ikpeme that the election should not hold. The Central Bank of Nigeria has issued a circular instructing commercial banks to sell dollars to Pilgrims going to the Hajj at an exchange rate of N197. The Central Bank explains that the sale of the forex will be funneled through commercial banks who are then mandated to sell to pilgrims at N197. Pilgrims are expected to purchase a minimum of $750 and a maximum of $1000 per pilgrim. he circular also reveals there are a total of 65,197 Pilgrims, thus the CBN will sell as much as $65,197,000 assuming every Pilgrim buys as much as $1000 each. Nigeria’s official exchange rate closed at about N315 which suggest that this sale could cost Nigerian tax payers about N7, 693, 246,000 in exchange rate loss (based on 315 -197=118). This is not the first time the Central Bank is selling dollars to Pilgrims at a subsidized rate. Last August it also sold dollars at N160 at a time when the official exchange rate was about N197. Justice Nnamdi Dimgba of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has granted bail to Mr Abiodun Agbele, an ally of the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose . The court said it recognized the importance of presumption of innocence of an accused until proven guilty. Agbele is to provide two sureties who must sign bail bond of N250m each. The sureties must also have property in Abuja or Lagos. The judge yesterday remanded an associate of the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, Mr. Abiodun Agbele, in Kuje Prison. Agbele was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on an 11 count charge of money laundering involving the sum of N1,219,000,000 said to be part of N4,685,723,000 allegedly transferred from the Office of the National Security Adviser, ONSA. Nigeria’s Boko Haram Islamic extremists have a new leader who is threatening to bomb churches and kill Christians while ending attacks on mosques and markets used by ordinary Muslims, according to an interview published Wednesday by the Islamic State group. He also says there is a Western plot to Christianize the region and has accused charities of using their aid for that, according to a SITE Intelligence Group translation of an interview published Wednesday in the Islamic State newspaper al-Nabaa. The newspaper identified Abu Musab al-Barnawi as the new “Wali,” or governor, of its so-called West Africa Province. The “Wali” title was previously used to describe long-time Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau. The report did not say what Shekau’s current status was, although there have been rumors for weeks that he had been replaced. The Islamic State (ISIS) has appointed a new leader for Nigerian terrorist sect, Boko Haram. ISIS announced, via the latest issue of its magazine, that Abu Musab al-Barnawi will now serve as Boko Haram’s leader, BBC reports. Al-Barnawi, previously a spokesperson for the group, takes over from Abubakar Shekau . Shekau became globally notorious due to his eccentric nature which was showcased in the sect’s videos. He however went underground in March 2015 after pledging allegiance to ISIS. Shekau resurfaced in March 2016 in a video which showed him looking weak and frail as he called on his followers to surrender saying that the end had come for him.

The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has claimed that the current economic recession in the country started under the leadership of former Prescient, Goodluck Jonathan. Amaechi claimed that the former Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, however, pleaded with him not to tell Nigerians that the country was broke. The minister added that the past administration covered up with the excuse that the country was cash-strapped. The Cable quoted Amaechi as making this claim on the Osasu Show on Tuesday. A statement by the Director of Communication, Office of the Head of Service of the Federation , Haruna Yazid, says Olusola Enika nolaiye has been appointed the new permanent secretary , Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Until his appointment, Enikanolaiye was the Charge -de affairs at the Nigerian High Commission, India . In the statement, President Buhari also approved the redeployment of 8 other permanent secretaries. Habiba Lawal was moved from the Ministry of Science & Technology to Ecological Funds office ( OSGF ) while Abbas Mohammed was moved from the Ecological Funds office ( OSGF ) to the Ministry of Solid Minerals.
