Abnedgo Don-Evarada, a former media aide to Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa state, has been arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
According to reports reaching us, the suspect was arrested on Monday in Port-Harcourt, Rivers state, for allegedly offering a bribe worth N10 million to the EFCC’s regional head, Ishaq Salihu.
Mr Don-Evarada ran into trouble when he approached Mr Salihu over a case involving the Senior Special Assistant to the Bayelsa’s state governor on Millennium Development Goals, Apere Embelakpo, and his wife, Fiene Beauty.
Mr Embelakpo is currently being investigated for allegedly diverting N800million originally intended for MDGs, while his wife is being investigated for alleged money laundering, forgery, and suspicious transactions to the tune of N200million.
Mr Don-Evarada allegedly offered the bribe ostensibly to compromise the EFCC investigation but his overture was turned down and he was subsequently arrested.
He remains in EFCC custody and will be charged in court as soon as the relevant investigation is concluded, EFCC officials said.
