Following an intensive investigation carried out by the Department of State Service (DSS) into the credentials submitted by mem
bers of the Ekiti State House of Assembly to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during 2015 general elections, reports show that some of the lawmakers forged their certificates and this will lead to the prosecution of the lawmakers.
It was gathered that the DSS and the Police began investigating the lawmakers after receiving multiple petitions by aggrieved members of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party and the opposition party in the state, the All Progressives Congress.
“We have investigated the academic credentials of the lawmakers based on petitions sent to us by the politicians in the state," the newspaper quoted a security source as saying.
“The petitions were based on alleged false declaration of academic qualifications and alleged age falsification in the papers presented to the INEC.
“We have been able to know that petitions against nine members of the State House of Assembly are genuine."
The source further said the DSS report has been presented to the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation, which is expected to study it and charge the suspects to court accordingly.
