Things are not going well for Mr. Olaseni Osifala, the paedophile staff of Queen's College, as the Lagos State Ministry of Youths and Social Development has said jurisdiction
will not stop its investigation into the Queen’s College sexual harassment
saga.
Though the school management for unknown reasons is doing its best to stop the staff from being brought to justice, the Minstry of Youths and Social Development is not relenting in seeing that Mr. Olaseni is investigated.
Yesterday we learnt that Mr. Olaseni has been freed to go home, as he has been kept at the Police Headquarters, Ikeja, since Tuesday 22nd of March. A former deputy governor of the state helped to get him out of police custody.
Commissioner Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf told journalists yesterday that since
the school is located in the state and the alleged act was perpetrated in the
state, the school cannot stop it from investigating the matter.
“Although Queens College is a federal school, it
is located in the state. The state has
encountered uncooperative attitude of the
school authorities and call for the temporary
removal of those concerned in the issue,
pending the outcome of the investigation,” she said.
“We, therefore, implore the Federal Ministry of
Education to direct officials of the school to
cooperate with state’s social workers in the
best interest of the children.
“The state will not stand by and watch, but will
always act in accordance with the Child Rights
Act
Apart from students, workers and residents demonstrated with placards in
solidarity with the accused teacher, whom they claimed was a man of proven
integrity.
The school’s principal, Lami Amodu, also released a statement, vouching for
the integrity of Olaseni.
In the statement, she said the allegation was an attempt to ridicule not just
Olaseni but the hard-earned reputation of Queens College.
But what is baffling in this whole scenario is that several pupils of the school are claiming Mr. Olaseni is guilty of the accusations levied against him. Some of them say he uses vulgar and sexual words on them. Some even claim to be victims of his sexual molestation.
