A woman identified as Mary, who lives on Furniture Avenue, Jakande Estate Gate, Isolo, Lagos, has been arrested by the
Lagos State Police Command for hurling a stone on the head of her eight-year-old son, Samuel , causing a fracture.
She committed this act after returning home to find her son away at a neighbour's residence without permission, this angered the mother who in her anger hit her son's head with a stone.
Neighbours who witnessed her wicked act were set to descend on her before the timely intervention of the police, who have now taken her into custody.
A neighbour identified as Mama Ada however made a submission on the matter. She said Mary did not intend to hit Samuel, who is her only son with a stone.
She said, “Mama Sam (Mary) did not deliberately break her son’s head. The boy’s father had divorced her since last year, and he did not send any money for the upkeep of the boy. Samuel dropped out of school last year.
“The mother does not have a good job. Her fault was that she was too hard on the boy by hitting him with a stone. But she is now remorseful.”
The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team were contacted by one of the neighbours and have swung to action.
According to the Coordinator, DSVRT, Lola Vivour-Adeniyi , Samuel has been taken into protection by the organisation.
