At a meeting held on Tuesday night, members of the APC Caucus endorsed Buhari as Presidental Candidate for the 2019 elections.
President Buhari was seduced by The national caucus which comprised of former and serving
governors, the National Assembly leadership, and selected members of the
national executive of the party to run for the Presidential Office come 2019 elections, though some of the caucus members think its too early to kick start a campaign now.
The caucus belives that if Buhari wins the second term, he would stabilise the nation's polity as regards the 16-year rot and decay caused by the PDP.
A committee has been set up by the caucus to resolve all pending and pressing issues in the party, the restiveness among some party leaders over their 2019 political ambitions, Crisis in the National Assembly, the inability of the party to inaugurate its Board Of Trustees among others.
A source privy to the situation in the party said: “With Buhari
contesting in 2019, those who have been
squabbling will now have to queue up behind
him and put the interest of the party ahead.”
However, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, the National Chairman of the party while speaking with journalists at the end of the parley, cleared the air about his office been threatened.
He dismissed reports of pressure on him to resign his office, saying: “I
am not aware that my office is under threat. I
led the party to the Sta
te House. It amazes me,
occasionally it annoys me. That is one of the
things you have to endure when you are in a
position like mine.”
The national chairman confirmed that a committee was set up to resolve all
the crises in the party. He urged Nigerians to give the party time to deliver,
assuring that the administration would pick up after the 2016 budget is
passed.
